Joseph J. García was born and raised in rural coastal Texas.  The son of civil/voting rights activists, he spent six years with the Peace Corps as a volunter in South America and as a recruiter. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies at UNM, examing natural resource policy development and teaches for the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department.
