Ray and Carol Pittman, both 79 years, met as teenagers and have been married for 57 years. Ray, a biochemist, retired in 1994 from the research faculty of the University of California in San Diego. Carol retired as a secretary in 1995. They bought the remainder of the old Ary Ranch just east of Datil in 1995 and moved there in 1996. They own about 1500 acres adjoining the Cibola National Forest (and the Augustin Plains Ranch). They keep a modest herd of cattle, and a handful of horses and donkeys. They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren headquartered in El Paso and in Denver.
